About the authors

Laura Holloway, Principal
Laura has 20 years of diverse communications, marketing and management experience. Former director of communications for a $1.2 billion pharmaceutical provider, Laura was involved in corporate identity, branding, advertising, public relations and crisis communications and training. She has managed projects and trained staff and all levels within an organization, training for front line staff using video conferencing technology to coaching executive management on improving their presentation skills.

Laura has worked for a national graphic design firm and for the City of Boulder public affairs department. Laura has a B.S. in organizational communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Today, she uses her keen sense of customer service, love of the human interest story and listening skills to help clients achieve outstanding results.

Patrick Hyde, Principal
Patrick has 20 years of communications, marketing, writing and account management experience for clients in a variety of industries, including criminal justice, health care, energy and more. He was communications director for a Fortune 500 health care firm’s $100 million subsidiary, managing most marketing functions for a 30-office operation. He has also worked in agency environments, including advertising, marketing and public relations.

Patrick has written more than 100 trade magazine articles, case studies and opinion editorials for clients. He has written for daily and monthly newspapers and a national trade magazine chain. He has a B.S. in journalism and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado. With Pivot he has focused on planning, integrated strategies and public relations counsel. He credits his first job at 13, delivering the Atlantic City Press at 6 a.m., with his love of news.

Heather Hutchinson, Account Executive
As a communication professional, Heather continues to build successful strategic communication efforts for a variety of clients. Specializing in media relations, internal communications, strategic planning, design and Web elements, Heather’s efforts have increased visibility for clients in media outlets – from television and the Web to newspapers and magazines.

Prior to joining Pivot, Heather worked in the communications and marketing department at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, where she promoted the capabilities and achievements of the hospital internally and externally. Heather attended the University of Colorado at Boulder to earn her bachelor’s degree in communication with a minor in history.

Maura O’Neal, Account Executive
Maura has been an award-winning writer for more than 15 years and has experience writing for a wide range of audiences. From a fiction contest at the age of 10 to academic and freelance pieces, Maura enjoys the versatility and variety that come with writing for different audiences. Maura brings an extensive background in criminal justice research to Pivot.

Prior to joining Pivot, she was a research assistant in the University of Colorado’s Problem Behavior Program. As a state senate intern she lead the research of constituent inquiries and worked on rural economic development and education parity issues. These experiences taught her the power of the written word, the importance of understanding both the client and the audience, and the significance of having a clear message. Maura earned her B.A. in liberal arts from Colorado State University and her M.A. in journalism from the University of Colorado.
