Boulder Digital Arts announces expansion into 3,000-square foot facility

BOULDER —After six years as a grassroots organization offering affordable classes in Web design, video production and other digital platforms, Boulder Digital Arts has opened a new, 3,000-square foot space and expanded its class offerings to serve a more diverse group of digital arts professionals, students and professionals.

Located at 1600 Range St. in Boulder, Boulder Digital Arts will boast many new features, including a state-of-the-art digital classroom; a digital lounge to meet, work and collaborate from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays; five office rentals for creative professionals; low-cost access to a computer lab featuring the latest video and photo-editing hardware and software; and space for meetings and social events.

BDA plans to offer a more diverse array of classes at its new building, catering to digital professionals, students, hobbyists and others in the creative community from Boulder County and beyond. Watch for a number of new digital video production and photography classes in the new space, as well as the new week-long Transitions Certificate Program for professionals shifting into new digital arenas.

“We’re thrilled to be moving into a more spacious setting,” co-founder Bruce Borowsky said of the new space. “The move will allow us to dramatically expand the number and types of courses we offer, and allow us to become the most affordable and exciting digital training center in the American West.”

BDA co-founders Bruce Borowsky and Zach Daudert launched Boulder Digital Arts in 2004 to offer low-cost, high-impact training in digital tools and new technology. Boulder is an important hub of the digital world, allowing BDA to leverage top-notch instructors and provide education in cutting-edge subjects and ideas. Borowsky, a Boulder Chamber of Commerce board member, has been a producer at People Productions in Boulder for more than 10 years. During that time he has worked on a wide variety of projects for both corporate and commercial clientele, not only as producer and director but also as cameraman, lighting director and editor. Daudert is a technology strategist, Web developer and filmmaker. He started his career as a video editor in the mid 1990s and moved into Web and mobile development when it became too interesting to ignore and promised a seemingly unlimited source of curiosity and experiments in the early 2000s.

“We’re amazed at how BDA has mushroomed since we opened our doors to become a hub of local digital professionals,” said Daudert. “We went from supporting Boulder locals to drawing people from surrounding states. With our certificate programs, we hope to draw people here for a full week of training.”

Whenever I’m stalled out, picking up a book usually provides the needed inspiration to get my creative juices flowing again. So what works have I checked off my reading list lately?

Eclectic yes, but each work tells a story in a strong voice, which really appeals to me as a reader and helps me overcome those moments when the muses seem to be taking time off. You may have a valuable message or earth-shattering news to share, but if you don’t engage me with the right tone, vocabulary and cadence, count me out—it won’t hold my interest and I’m not going to get it.

While the list above includes two literary journalism pieces, a memoir and two non-fiction/instructional books, they all have one thing in common—they are centered on a personal perspective conveyed in an interesting, up-tempo, consistent voice. I couldn’t keep myself from turning the pages and that’s how you want your messages to be consumed, don’t you?

A sixth sense for the next hottest trend is an asset whether you make the news, report the news or want to be the news, but not a talent everyone possesses or cares to cultivate. If you’re limited to the traditional five senses, Google Insights is a tool worth bookmarking. Not only does it provide links to top stories by keyword, but you can use it to predict trends by category, season, location or time frame.
