6. Do you match your position? Your creative effort must follow your positioning objective, and not the other way around.

The 34^th annual Boulder Walk & Bike Month is a diverse celebration of more than 90 bicycle and pedestrian activities organized throughout June. Presented by GO Boulder, Walk & Bike Month is the largest free event held in Boulder. BI TAD, or Transdermal Alcohol Detector, continuously monitors for alcohol consumption through a noninvasive skin sensor worn on an offender’s ankle, includes radio-frequency and is compatible with GPS monitoring capabilities. Individuals on the system can be monitored for curfews and alcohol use with the same device. TAD’s advanced alcohol monitoring system is a valuable tool for states and counties facing courts and correctional facilities clogged with DUI and DWI offenders and strained budgets that require them to do more with less.

Prior to joining Altitude Edge Consultants, Ms. Ginsberg led the creation of New Jersey’s PACE infrastructure development, which included updating the State Plan Amendment; establishing a capitated Medicaid rate; creating policies and procedures for implementing and monitoring PACE; and providing technical assistance to prospective PACE organizations in support of their applications to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Ms. Ginsberg was previously the supervisor for the Department’s Division of Aging and Community Services’ (DACS) state-funded home and community-based programs that included the Congregate Housing Services Program, the Statewide Respite Care Program and the Alzheimer’s Adult Day Services Program. She was the Project Manager for the National Family Caregiver Support Program grant, awarded to New Jersey in 2001 by the U.S. Administration on Aging and managed all DACS activities involving family caregiving programs, presentations and conferences.  Prior to that, she was the Project Coordinator for the Nursing Facility Transitions Grant, awarded to New Jersey in 1999 by CMS.

Ms. Ginsberg has presented to numerous state and national groups on institutional and community long-term care; co-chaired the New Jersey Women’s Caregiver Retreat for three years; developed and implemented the state’s Caregivers Best Practices conference, attended by 300 professionals; and was a member of the Governor’s Stakeholders Task Force on the Olmstead Supreme Court decision that reaffirmed the rights of persons with disabilities to live in the community. She has been a registered nurse for 30 years, with extensive experience in home and community-based services for the aging and people with disabilities.

TAD’s highly accurate and reliable alcohol monitoring system is a valuable tool for states and counties whose court systems and correctional facilities are clogged with DUI and DWI offenders. TAD is a water-resistant, battery-operated device worn around the ankle 24 hours a day. The TAD sensor rests against the offender’s skin. If an offender drinks alcohol while wearing a TAD ankle bracelet, the sensor detects a “drinking event” via sensible perspiration (sweat) and insensible perspiration (vapor) emitted through the skin. The bracelet transmits data to a receiver installed in the offender’s home. This data is transmitted to a host computer which then disseminates and distributes the information to supervising authorities as needed.

Hosted by Boulder East Community Transportation Options, this contest pits corporate teams of three bikers and one pedestrian in a timed relay event with each participant balancing a plastic egg filled with jelly beans in a spoon from their mouth while negotiating an obstacle course. Awards for the fastest and most spirited teams will be given. Dozens of prizes will be given out throughout the day. Costumes are encouraged. A complimentary lunch will be provided. BOULDER—Sue Prant, director of Boulder’s Walk & Bike Month, announced that bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly Boulder businesses and individuals will commandeer up to 25 parking spaces on “Park(ing) Spaces Day,” between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., on Friday, June 11. On Park(ing) Spaces Day, businesses and individuals will transform a street or private lot automobile parking space into a “park” area for the day. In past years, participants have set up many creative spaces, including dog parks, gardens, tea rooms, massage tables, putt-putt golf and even outdoor work stations.

Park(ing) Spaces will average 8 feet by 17 feet.

“This will be a very lively and visual event,” said Sue Prant, director of Walk & Bike Month. “This is a light-hearted attempt to raise awareness of a serious issue, the trade-off of space allocated for automobiles versus space for human activities. These articles are great for EPOCH because they tell a compelling story about a problem – how traditional care for dementia patients can be less than stellar – and the solution created by Namaste Care founder Joyce Simard, who also developed the program at EPOCH. We had some damp weather last year, but if the skies are clear on Bike to Work Day, I think we’ll see at least 9,000 people participating. That will be a new record for Boulder.”

• Saturday, June 5, National Trails Day at Betasso Preserve: Celebrate National Trails Day and help construct the new Benjamin Trail at Betasso Preserve.  The multi-use path will eventually connect to the existing Canyon Loop Trail. Volunteers will work closely with a small crew led by an experienced leader.  Co-sponsored by Boulder County, Boulder Mountainbike Alliance, REI and the Boulder County Horse Association.
• Sunday, June 6, B360 Bike Ride: As part of Boulder’s Walk & Bike Month, everyone is invited to take part in the annual B360 Boulder By Bike Ride tour from 3-5 p.m.. It’s an enjoyable ride that’s fun for all ages and showcases the city’s cycling and pedestrian paths. Participants can ride an entire loop around the city or ride a half-loop called the B180. Both rides begin and end at Scott Carpenter Park, Arapahoe Avenue and 30^th Street. Stick around after the ride for refreshments, a picnic and prize drawings.
• Friday, June 11, Park(ing) Spaces Day: As part of Park(ing) Spaces Day, paid parking spaces downtown and in parking lots around Boulder will be transformed into places where visitors can stop, visit, and benefit from many different types of activities, from chair massages to yoga to bike repair stations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Saturday, June 12, Mountain Bike Clinic: Gebhardt Volkswagen will host a mountain bike clinic for beginning to intermediate riders at noon at 2470 49^th St. Learn about preparedness, shared use etiquette, simple maintenance and riding techniques.
• Friday, June 18, Happy Hour at The Peloton: Join the Peloton neighbors for a bike-themed happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. at their new community center, 1685 38^th St. The event will feature $2 beers, food by local restaurants, information about bike rides and routes, and more.
• Tuesday, June 22, Boulder Beer Bicycle Benefit: Celebrate biking in Boulder and get ready for Bike to Work Day with the Boulder Beer Bicycle Benefit at 5:30 p.m. at 2880 Wilderness Place. Cost is $15. Admission includes a buffet dinner, beer and a pair of Smartwool socks.
• Wednesday, June 23, Bike to Work Day: Pedestrians and bicyclists will register and walk or ride to work, stopping by more than 45 local businesses who will be offering up refreshments and food to registered participants. Watch for fun related activities like the Great 55^th Street Egg-less Relay and the Bike Shorts Film Festival on the CU campus. For the third consecutive year, Pedal to Properties is the title sponsor of Bike to Work Day.
